Cloakroom concept. Narrow spaces, part II

After unveiling the tiny bathroom project in last post, Viola Home Design is continuing the challenge of small-sized private areas - the space under the stairs. Having such a space is an advantage: it could house the drawers or hidden cupboards. But if you are able to squeeze yourself and the zone has the plumbing installation in it - it can be turned into the downstairs toilet, also called the cloakroom.

Apart the plumbing, there are also additional requirements to be taken into consideration including drainage, ventilation and ergonomic indicators. In relation to the last one, the minimum required size for the toilet is 70 cm wide and 130 m long; and to have it functional, take in mind the door to open outward.

200 x 90 cm area under the stairs

The original measurements of the projected zone is 200 m long, 90 cm wide - much more than a minimum for ergonomic toilet. However, the sloping ceiling ranges from very low 100 cm to normal 260 cm at the end.

Elevation of the downstairs area

The slim washbasin can be hooked up to the side wall in the layout. Its sleek design does not protrude too far into the room.

The built wall will hide pipework and attach built-in toilet. Its upper part is housing two-door cupboard for sanitary items, and avoid visual noise in such a narrow area.

An important concern, however, is the ventilation - to reduce condensation and remove smells. To avoid the long ducting and strong fan (which can be noisy), the ventilation is to join the duct on the side wall of the kitchens ventilating pipe particularly.

❗bear in mind ergonomic recommendations for comfortable and functional use

❗the simple white décor keeps things bright and not too fussy
